Glimpses of a Golden Childhood: The Rebellious Childhood of a Great Enlightened One
Published in Hardcover by Osho Viha (December, 1997)
Author: Osho
Average review score:

Portrait of a young Buddha as an Indian huck finn
This charming yet significant work is an autobiographical snapshot of the rare achievement of the 'fourth state' indicated in the classic yogas for which India is famous. A young rascal from an Indian village who found lessons in every direction including the handling of dangerous snakes from the local charmer to his sponataneous meditations in jogging, swimming, and immobility, the account unwittingly reveals the intangible nature of the means in such a quest, and the mysterious midwivery that India alone seems able to provide. Such a work is an important reminder of what even institutional buddhists would prefer to conceal in the eternal entrapment of bodhisattwas, success is possible, and frozen images of ancient buddhas are no myth. Not a single important Buddhist organization had the courage to even acknowledge the existence of this man. Worth keeping in mind. A beautiful work, and, strangely, out of print. Reprint this book immediately!

best book by osho dectating himself.
Simply the book i've loved the most. One who loves osho very much like me,would love to read this book.

The greatest Master, whoever walked on this earth.
HIS words are the greatest gift to existence and if the whole world could be inspired by HIM, there would be no war, no fights, no politicians, no limitations.Humanity simply would become one unity, full of love, compassion and understanding. I'm grateful for HIS being still alive and radiant with love and truth. Thank you, OSHO

The Golden Age Flash: Archives (Dc Archive Editions)

Very Good Read for Flash Fans
This is a wonderful book to read if you're a Flash fan. In it, we get the reprinted adventures of the original Flash Jay Garrick. It lacks detailed characterization, and the stories are simple. But, they leave you entertained.
A must-have for Flash fans!!

Fantastic!
A short introduction in the beginning, and five tiny biographies of Flash artists at the end, mark the total text found in this book. Almost the entirety of the book is filled with Flash comics from Flash Comics #1 (January, 1940) through #17 (May, 1941)! The covers (even if they include someone other than the Flash) and comics are reproduced in their original size, and in a simply fantastic clarity. I am simply astounded at how good these look!

Here you see the origin of the Jay Garrick (Earth Two) Flash, and watch him kick the butts of more than a few baddies (actually, he preferred to turn them into human tops!). This book is a mite pricey, but it is a fantastic addition to the library of any Flash fan.

awesome
its a great book for the jla lovers and the flash i reccomond it to everybody who likes comics

Golden Booklet of the True Christian Life
Published in Hardcover by Baker Book House (October, 2002)
Authors: John Calvin, Henry J. Van Andel, Henry J. Van Andel, and Jean Calvin
Average review score:

A great tool for spiritual mentoring.
This thin little book is no lightweight. It's a Trojan horse that delivers timeless substance from the Scriptures on how to think about and live the Christian life. It reaches head and heart, and so is extremely practical--without being a simplistic "how-to" book. I have used it in a number of one-on-one discipling relationships; its small size makes it manageable and appealing to busy people, but God uses its substantive and convicting teaching to affect lives. Buy a copy for yourself and another for someone you care about, and get ready for sharpening discussions.

Wow, What a Life-Changing Book!
How do you review a book such as this one? When I first read this book several years ago, it changed the way I thought and lived the Christian life. Now, rereading it some years later, it reminds me of just how foundational it was in my way of thinking of "the Christian life". Especially in the way it taught me (and others through me who I teach) how important and "normal" is suffering in the true Christian life. It is through suffering God conforms us to the image of Christ.

This is a volume taken from the third volume of 'Calvin's Institutes' and has been incredibly helpful for Christians for over 400 years! One of the things you will find about this book is how extremely easy it is to understand it, as well as practical (in fact it is almost like it was written yesterday). Oftentimes, it is easy to think that a book written originally in the 16th century would be both difficult and impractical! However, this book is biblically crystal clear as well as useful! I have given this book away often and I have only seen growth in those to whom I have given it! May it be a new book for you, or one you buy again for a friend.

A Necessary Apologetic to Today's "Word-Faith" Heresies
Calvin is the master exegete. Calvin pastors his readers with a glimpse into the eternal purposes of suffering. The author encourages the suffering saint to see that Jesus Christ was the ultimate suffering servant and that our temporal afflictions are sent from God to cause us to rely on Christ and promote obedience, sobriety, righteousness and godliness. The book is a quick, understandable read as it is a distillation of portions of his "Institutes." This work should dispel the false notion that all that interests Calvin is predestination!

Illustrations are just gorgeous!
I bought this book for my little daughter and I'm sure she will enjoy reading it as much as I did!

great artwork adds to a fun reading exprience!
This is a valuable buy for anyone who enjoys beautiful artwork and loves to snuggle up with a good story on a cold evening. My parents had purchased this book for my little sister and asked me to read it to her one night before bed. I had expected dreading the little children's stories, but as I opened the book and began reading, I found the artwork so enchanting and interesting and the stories so enthralling that I had a great time. I would recommend this compilation to anyone who loves Christmastime.

Wonderfully illustrated; good content selection
I love this book! Content selection is good and illustrations are wonderful. The artist has created a fascinating world of characters and images. The quality of print is excellent too.
I bought this book as a Christimas gift for my son and will now order another one for my friends' kids.

The Golden Chronicles #1; Practice to Deceive

practice to deceive
In this Georgian romance, Penelope Delavale and Quentin Chandler must evade not only the Duke of Cumberlands vicious men, but her ruthless uncle who is after her brother's title and fortune. They must deliver a cipher to protect the defeated bonny Prince Charles' secret supporters. There's life and death adventure, but humor as well...and of course, romance. Patricia Verlan is a gifted writer and it is evident that she is a first-class researcher..both in history and swordplay. After you've read all six of the Golden Chronicles, please go on the Riddle series. You won't regret one minute.

Excellent all around!
This book is an exciting beginning to an excellent series (The Golden Chronicles). It has it all--mystery, suspense, humor, a sophisticated heroine, a noble hero, and of course, romance. This series takes place in Regency England and surrounding countries. This is a must-read for romance/suspense fans!

Read this book and the serise!
Wonderful as always! Please do yourself a favour and read this book!

Golden Gate Bridge: Chief Engineer's Report (#456)
Published in Hardcover by Golden Gate Bridge (June, 1970)
Average review score:

Amazing!!!
This book is amazing! I have the 50th aniversary edition and it is one of the best technical review of a construction I have ever read. It has all, cost, technical data, drawing (I love the drawings of all parts of the bridge). If you want to know how this bridge was constructed, this is the right book for you. And It has a lot of pictures and photos too, that make easy to understand all the construction process.

Awesome details about an awesome bridge.
For those of you who are obsessed with engineering feats like I am, this book is the absolute best. It includes every possible detail of the Golden Gate bridge you can possibly imagine. From the politics of its conception to the impact of tempature on the alignement of the cables, this book covers every facet and fact of construction of this great landmark. I truly beleive that if someone wanted to build their own Golden Gate Bridge, they can do so by using only this book as a reference tool.

Packed with information about America's finest bridge!
This is a great book for any civil engineer, student of civil engineering, or just anyone who wants to know everything there is about the bridge. There are over 100 photographs at different stages of construction, and the book is an excellent accompaniment to the documentary that can be purchased or sometimes shown on the Discovery channel. It also has the costs broken down, dimensions and other interesting data.

Golden Horrors: An Illustrated Critical Filmography of Terror Cinema, 1931-1939
Published in Hardcover by McFarland & Company (July, 1996)
Author: Bryan Senn
Average review score:

Crackles on the soundtrack.
A fan of Lugosi or Karloff? Find it in your budget to pick up this masterpiece. Bryan Senn is a young, inspired, well-read cinephile. His specialty is the 1930's. He's very good. He acknowledges his sources and blends them perfectly into this valuable tome. Interesting pictures and wonderful trivia abound. For example, did you know that, in 1932, Fay Wray was filming "King Kong" during the day, "The Most Dangerous Game" at night, and still going back to Warner Bros. studio for pick-ups on "Dr. X" all at the same time? This remarkable lady is still alive(around age 96). (I met her at a California film festival.) If old horror movies are your bag, are you in luck!

Buy This Book
If your interested in 30's horror this is the one book that you must have. Senn provides full coverage of the genre in the 30's--in depth reviews of all the decade's major films and short reviews of films that are more marginal in importance (mostly mysteries with horror overtones).

Golden horrors has the best format of any film book I have ever read. for each major film covered, Senn provides seperate sections on plot summaries, the strengths of the film, its weaknesses, and its prodiuction history. This means you can skip over reading the plots of films you have already seen and get the historical and analytical meat.

Senn's taste is informed and almost always on target. He not only tells you what's good or bad about the film but why. There's no vague generalties about ambience or directorial skill--he explains with specifics how the director (or writer or cinematographer) achieved his effects.

The production histories are complete and usually very interesting.

The book also includes 10 best lists for 30's horror films by Senn and other writers. Finding out Ray Bradbury's top 10 picks will, I think, be of interest to most fans.

I can't recommend this book to highly. It's simply the best on the subject and nothing else is even a close second.

Best critique of thirties horror films
Senn's book is simply the best ever done on the classic (and otherwise) horror films of the thirties. It surpasses the coverage of the thirties in such recognized masterpieces as UNIVERSAL HORRORS, and it is hard to see how a book could offer better understanding of the films addressed. If Senn would do a similar job on the forties, he will go down as one of the great authors in the genre. He might anyway.

The Golden Hour

A MUST READ-You won't be able to put it down.
This book is a must read. Great for book clubs. Once I started reading this book, I couldn't put it down. I found myself captivated by Rebekah and ALL those around her. I felt the emotions that the author instilled in her characters. When I wasn't able to be reading, I was thinking about what would happen next. I was angry at times, then would find comfort and hope. Ms. Stanphill doesn't disappoint. This book reminded me that even the most impossible IS possible, but not from within my self. Where is the sequel? I have to know what happens next!

great read
I really enjoyed the story. It was well written and very inspiring.
I could picture Rebekah (the main charecter) in my mind as I was reading along, and became very engrossed in the story.

Excellent!
I hope you'll take the time to read this book. The story reads really well, and the message is inspiring - we might be born into a set of circumstances, be we do have the power to change. I've recommended this book to all my friends!
